Preparing For Your Custom Garage

The team at HWS Garages loves helping customers build their dream garages. However, before we can begin our process, it’s crucial to familiarize yourself with both the HWS timeline and the preliminary steps you must take as the customer to ensure we can bring your vision into reality.

Customer Initiation Tasks

Obtain a survey of the following:

Dimensions and dwelling setbacks
Location of proposed garage
Impervious surface limits of all impermeable structures, including proposed garage

Obtain HOA approval (if required) with information including setbacks, size limits, etc.

Contact County or City ordinances for further information about accessory buildings (detached garages) or additions (attached garages). NOTE: Every county and or city jurisdiction contains different limitations for accessory buildings or additions, so we highly recommend customers become aware of their county or city UDOs. This helps determine if building your garage falls within county or city limitations.

Take note of General County Requirements:

Garage must remain 5’ from all septic tanks and septic lines.
Garage must remain 25’ from any well.

HWS Timeline

Once you have taken the necessary steps to determine whether your property will allow for the garage you envision, our team can begin the process of building. Please note that due to COVID-19, this timeline is subject to change.

HWS places a 90 day to 120 day work period on construction.

Time frame depends on the size of the garage and the amount of material detail needed for customization.

NOTE: Shipping has been delayed on certain materials due to COVID-19, so construction could be subject to extend past the work period.

We will provide a complete, detailed estimate, including all materials, upgrades, and specialized materials that match the home.

Our blueprint drawings of your garage are engineered and used to submit for a building permit.

NOTE: Permit approvals require applications, an updated survey, blueprints, and any other information such as Environmental Health requirements, etc. Permits have taken longer than usual for approval due from COVID-19.
